RIDLEY SCOTT RESUMES ‘THE COUNSELOR’ MONDAY

The filmmaker put the movie on hiatus for two weeks. He left the set of The Counselor so he could travel from London to Hollywood and handle his brother’s affairs after Tony Scott’s tragic death. Now director/producer Ridley Scott is starting production back up on The Counselor for Fox Monday, with Michael Fassbender back on set Tuesday in London. Film moves to Alicante, Spain, in a couple weeks.

Deadline

Poor Ridley. I can’t imagine what he must be going through. Strong man.

UPDATE: RIDLEY SCOTT SUSPENDS ‘THE COUNSELOR’ SHOOT IN WAKE OF BROTHER’S DEATH

The director has traveled from London to Los Angeles to be with the Scott family.

Production on The Counselor, the all-star drug drama being directed by Ridley Scott, has been suspended in the wake of his brother Tony Scott’s sudden death, sources confirm to The Hollywood Reporter.

Ridley Scott was shooting Counselor in London when he received the news that his brother had likely committed suicide by jumping from a Los Angeles-area bridge. Ridley made the decision to halt shooting for the week and travel to L.A. to be with the Scott family.

Counselor, a 20th Century Fox film, features an A-list cast including Javier Bardem, Penelope Cruz, Cameron Diaz, Michael Fassbender and Brad Pitt. Author Cormac McCarthy wrote the script. It’s just one of several film and TV projects that the Scott brothers were developing.

Tony Scott is survived by his wife and two children.

20th CENTURY FOX CONFIRMS THEY’RE ‘ACTIVELY PUSHING AHEAD’ WITH PROMETHEUS SEQUEL - FASS & NOOMI ALREADY SIGNED

Via THR:

“The studio’s big summer bet was Ridley Scott’s Prometheus, June’s sort-of Alien prequel. The $130 million-budgeted film grossed a solid but not spectacular $303 million globally, putting it right on the franchise bubble. Fox confirms to THR that Scott and the studio actively are pushing ahead with a follow-up (stars Michael Fassbender and Noomi Rapace are signed) and are talking to new writers because Prometheus co-scribe Damon Lindelof might not be available. “Ridley is incredibly excited about the movie, but we have to get it right. We can’t rush it,” says Fox president of production Emma Watts, who also has overseen the successful reboots of the X-Men and Planet of the Apes franchises. A Prometheus sequel would be released in 2014 or 2015.”

Thank God they’re looking for new writers. Not a fan of Lindelof.

Rosie’s so going to be Ruth. Great casting, Ridley. Sorry I can’t feel the same about the Malkina & Laura roles.

RIDLEY SCOTT ‘TIME OUT LONDON’ INTERVIEW

Director Ridley Scott tells Cath Clarke why he’s making a science fiction comeback.

Below is my favorite part of the article:

Noomi Rapace, playing one half of the archeologist duo, looks every inch a heroine in the Ripley mould. Scott watched her twice as kick-ass feminist avenger Lisbeth Salander in the original ‘The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo’ before meeting her. (Though she may not be so tough in real life – she had to get Michael Fassbender to open her mineral water bottle at the press conference.)

Fassbender plays an android, David (the ship’s butler), and he’s the character Scott is most enthusiastic talking about. There’s a great scene, he explains, where David is pouring a drink for a tipsy crewman, who’s ribbing him about not being human: ‘Are David’s feelings hurt? Is he pissed off? How far is he away from being dangerous?’ And how far from being human, presumably – if he’s feeling human emotions? ‘Exactly right. And it evolves beautifully at the end.’

THE COUNSELOR SET TO SHOOT IN THE FALL (and other tidbits)

Anyone read that big spread on Ridley Scott in The Hollywood Reporter yesterday? I was going to post it but it has a ‘David’ spoiler in it that I thought many of you would not be happy reading about. Any way, according to THR via ‘Film Thrasher’ The Counselor won’t be shooting in June but instead some time this Fall. It is, however, expected to be released in early 2013. We’ll see.

Also, as you may already know, Sir Ridley is itching to make a sequel to Prometheus ASAP. I’m on board if David’s on board, Mr. Scott. Just hoping David will be around to be on board :{

Via Film Thrasher:

“In a large profile on THR it’s stated that after his next film The Counselor, a sequel to Prometheus is something that Ridley Scott “hopes will come next”. The Counselor, starring Brad Pitt, Michael Fassbender, Cameron Diaz, Javier Bardem, and Penelope Cruz is set to shoot this fall, which the director called ”No Country for Old Men on steroids.” While he’ll be involved in a heavy post-production for the film, The Counselor is still expected to swiftly be out the door and into theater by Early 2013, which a Prometheus sequel could get rolling at the end of next year at the very earliest.

However, we also have to take into consideration other factors. 20th Century Fox is ultimately the one that says whether or not a sequel will go forward, and that will likely depend upon how the first film does at the box office. With the freshly confirmed R-rating, it’ll be interesting to see just how audiences respond to the film, although the positive word of mouth and already present Alien fanbase are likely to show up to support the sci-fi epic.”

“The fact he wants to get a second Prometheus done first, however, shows not only his dedication to returning back in the sci-fi genre but also to likely get the lengthy principal photography out of the way. The first film took over six month to shoot, with WETA digital effects taking place around the same time. So it’s likely that if a sequel is to happen, the film will not see the light of day until Christmas 2014 or even Summer 2015.”
